Shanghai Jin An District Jiaozhou Road Apartment Fire Photos – digg china

Shanghai Jiaozhou Road apartment building fire.

This is already old news (there is good English reporting on Shanghaiist) but here are some photographs throughout the unfortunate event. A lot of the reporting of this fire happened online by Chinese netizens, and there have been many complaints and criticism about the poor reporting by the Shanghai media. Many English reports have already mentioned this so I was hesitant to post about this but I wanted to share a little bit more about what Chinese netizens are talking about with regards to the fire.

From NetEase:

Comments from KDS:

westin:

Normally putting on a show doing fake things, and now this time it is real. I’ll wait to see the outcome and then comment [referring to the city government].

来碗拉面:

The hard disks at my company obviously have no sympathy for the victims.
Only the portion of Shanghainese first expressed their condolences and hopes for a positive outcome.
What the hard disks first cared about were [the effect on] housing prices or whether the building had collapsed? The fire made things very lively/festive [for them]!

The bunch of beasts!

小酸:

So sad, all afternoon was the sound of firetrucks driving by.

It’s time for building codes/regulations to be changed, do it now and it isn’t too late, otherwise tragedies will continue to happen.
The experience of developed countries is worth learning from.
1. High-rise buildings must have external emergency stairs.
2. Residential buildings must have emergency ladders/stairs on the balconies that allow you to climb to the first floor, and must be inspected regularly.
. Require the installation of fire alarms and ceiling sprinkler systems.

Shanghai’s housing prices are in line with the developed world, so its facilities should also be in line with the developed world.

Building with external emergency stairs.

吟游诗人:

emoticon Looks like safety netting in the future may need to be made with fire-resistant material. Building costs have gone up, so housing prices are going to go up again…

瓏KING:

Just came back from the scene. Shanghai’s transportation was impressive, it was 3.5 hours after the fire started before the first high-power fire engine reached the scene to fight the fire. The 40+ fire engines that had gotten there earlier could only stand by and watch while extinguishing the fire on floors 10 and under. At present, the fire has already reached the roof, while the firefighters have successfully reached past the 20th floor.

yunsong:

I don’t get it, Shanghai is such a large city, yet the various government departments have never thought of how to deal with this kind of situation? How to practice for this?
How come Yu Zhengsheng [the CPC party chief of Shanghai, 豆制品 is a nickname] wasn’t on the scene directing [the rescue efforts]? Thinking back to the China Eastern crash at Hongqiao Airport, the city leaders were all on the scene directing the efforts. Now, Yu Zhengsheng should take responsibility and immediately submit his resignation.

Some (or maybe a lot) of the Chinese netizen discussion on the internet (especially on the QQ forums) has become Shanghainese vs. wai di ren, with many non-Shanghainese people making insensitive comments and many Shanghainese people reporting that non-Shanghainese coworkers have made insensitive comments. This is probably not surprising.

Popular young Chinese blogger and race car driver Han Han was also spotted at the scene of the fire. He later wrote a blog post (Chinese) about the fire, including more photographs.
